Course Description
Marketing 101 is a dynamic online course that will help you create a great marketing plan, develop training ideas for staff members, and run a successful program.

Target Audience
This course is targeted to school nutrition directors and managers.

The course is divided into three sequential lessons:

  Principles of Marketing
In this lesson, the learner will identify the uses of marketing plans in school nutrition programs, define a mission statement, develop a SWOT analysis, identify SMART objectives, learn how to describe target audience characteristics, expectations, and perceptions, and identify the relationship between strategies and tactics.
  Marketing Mix and Message Communication
In this lesson, the learner will describe the traditional 4 P's of marketing, develop strategies and tactics by applying the 4 P's to a target audience, define the purpose of a marketing message, develop a benefit statement for a specific target audience, describe the process of translating a benefit statement into a compelling message, and identify communication channels and strategies for various target audiences.
  Budget, Evaluation, and Implementation
In this lesson, the learner will define the difference between hard and soft data collection in marketing plan evaluations, outline ways to collect both hard and soft data when evaluating a marketing plan, describe the role of budgeting in a marketing plan, list the important items to include in a marketing plan budget, develop a basic timeline for the completion of a marketing plan, describe the importance of staff training to the success of any marketing plan.
